Cables

A cable is a segment of a special type. A cable is not related to an axis, but to segment points of other segments. Hence, it is dependent on an other segment.

The geometrical position of the cable is defined by connection points or parts. These positions refer to the cross section before or after at the segment points of the reference segments.

Additionally to the geometrical position, two stiff connections at the begin and the end of the cable has to be defined. To complete the input of a cable, it is only necessary to assign the element, node numbers and the material after the segment has been inserted. These inputs are to be done as for other segments in the segment point list.

SettingDescription
Reference segment

Segment, the pier is connected to. The pier is dependent on this segment.

Segment point

Segment point of the reference segment.

Default: 1st segment point

Part of segment point

Part of the segment point of the reference segment.

Default: 1st part

Radio buttons Before / After

FE-cross section, that defines the geometrical position of the cable.

Default: "After"

Connection point

The connection point has to be defined previously at the cross section, that is assigned to the segment point of the reference segment. The geometrical position of the cable is unique defined by the segment point, the option "before/after" and this point at the cross section.

Cable parameters

Input of the element and node numbers, the material and the cross section area. It is possible to define a cross section for cables.

Stationing

The Stationing is defined relatively between 0 and 1. The 1st segment point is situated at station 0.0 and the last one at station 1.0.

Note: Both points are not able to be deleted in the segment point list.

Between these points, further points may exist to subdivide the cable into different elements.

Copy of cables

The copy function can be used very efficiently, if one cable has been defined completely (inclusive numbering, material, ...). Afterward, this cable may be copied several times. All properties of the source cable will be transferred to the new generated ones.
